Leo Goodstadt

Leo Goodstadt was an economist who served the Hong Kong government as its chief policy adviser from 1989 to 1997. He wrote and contributed to books on the economy and politics in Hong Kong and China and worked as a consultant economist for a number of leading financial institutions. He was the deputy editor of the “Far Eastern Economics Review” and was a Hong Kong-based correspondent for British news outlets, as well as a presenter for ATV. The WYNG Foundation worked with Goodstadt on two research projects. Goodstadt’s publication, “Poverty in the Midst of Affluence“, explains how Hong Kong mismanaged its prosperity and why poverty returned to the city. “A City Mismanaged: Hong Kong’s Struggle for Survival” traces the collapse of good governance in Hong Kong, explains its causes, and exposes the damaging impact on the community’s quality of life.
